Established in 2004, SINE, a broad-spectrum technology business incubator, focuses on promotion of entrepreneurship at IIT Mumbai. Of the 32 Companies incubated so far by SINE, 10 have graduated successfully and have generated employment for more than 200 people.

SINE is associated with IIT Mumbai, recognized as one of the centers of academic excellence in the country. Over the years, there has been dynamic progress at IIT Mumbai in all academic and research activities, and a parallel improvement in facilities and infrastructure. IIT Mumbai was established with the cooperation and participation of UNESCO, utilizing the contribution of the Govt. of USSR. The Institute received substantial assistance in the form of equipment and expert services from USSR through UNESCO from 1956 to 1973. Under the bilateral agreement of 1965, the USSR Govt. provided additional assistance to supplement the Aid Program already received by the Institute through UNESCO.

SINE extends the role of IIT Mumbai by facilitating the conversion of research activity into entrepreneurial ventures. SINE is creating an ecosystem that will foster and support innovation and knowledge based entrepreneurship amongst the IIT Mumbai community leading to the creation of wealth and social value through successful ventures. 14 incubatee companies of SINE have received SEED fund support of Rs. 177 Lacs (Rupees 17.7 million)
