Venture Center's mission is to nucleate and nurture technology and knowledge-based enterprises by leveraging the scientific and engineering competencies of the institutions in Pune region. Venture Center seeks to be the organization that will be credited with creating, shaping and sustaining a “Pune cluster” of innovative technology businesses with a significant economic impact regionally, nationally and globally within the next 20 years.

The center is housed inside the campus of National Chemical Laboratory Pune which is a premier research, development and consulting organization with a focus on chemistry and chemical engineering and has a successful record of research partnership with industry. NCL is a flagship laboratory of the Council of Scientific &Industrial Research (CSIR). In India, NCL publishes the second largest number of papers in chemical sciences, files the largest number of patents, both in India and abroad and produces the largest number of Ph. Ds in Chemical Sciences.

The Center has infrastructure & layout for identification, creation, acceleration and translation (into practice) of technology ideas suitable for new venture creation. Resource centers such as the Venture Center Library (launched in June 2009, www.vcenterlibrary.org) and an IP Facilitation Center (planned) are in the pipeline to further strengthen the set of resources made available for technology commercialization. The center has made provisions for grant support for entrepreneurial development by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MoMSME) and early-stage (‘seed’) funding from the Department of Science and Technology.
