Dr. Neelima Alam completed her Doctorate research from All India Institute of Medical sciences (AIIMS) in the field of Structural Biology in the year 2001. She was then extensively involved in a NIH (National Institute of health) funded project as Postdoctoral fellow at Merkert Chemistry Centre, Boston College for 4 years. Various articles and research based publications have been contributed by her in high impact factor international journals and she has also gained good exposure both at the international and national platforms presenting papers in international as well as national symposiums and conferences.

She later moved back to India and successfully coordinated as Principal Investigator (contributing 4 international papers), in a DST funded Fast track project in 2004 at School of Life sciences J.N.U before she joined Department of Science and Technology as Scientist 'C' from 2007 onwards.

Since June 2007 till present have been serving the Department as Scientist 'C' in the National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB). Here primarily handling the Institution based mechanisms of the NSTEDB Division called Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) and Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Parks (STEPs) which are significant initiatives of the Division, to provide the crucial missing linkage between the academia and the commercial zone.

From March 2010 have also been involved in the grass root level programmes of the Division for Micro-entrepreneurship promotion through Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development (STED) Projects and Skill Development Training Programmes (STST).
